"I was thinking about the Titanic. I was thinking about how 75% of the women survived. 18% of the men survived. They awaited patiently to their deaths because that horrible Patriarchy they lived under believed women and children were far more important then men."
I may have butchered the quote a little because it’s on THIS video, but the message remains the same.
What annoys me is how feminism has basically come in and said “The men’s rights movement is stupid and unnecessary because we’re dealing with all your male issues they’re completely due to the patriarchy so shut the fuck up and let us work” while proposing anti-male legislation like the Duluth Model, which says that there are no male victims of domestic violence and no female perpetrators of domestic violence, and silencing men’s rights discussions.
How could anyone expect men’s rights activists to accomplish anything while feminists are actively opposing them? NOW, one of the most prominent feminist group out there opposes the default of joint custody. This means that in cases where both parents in a divorce are equally fit, NOW members want custody to go to the mother without considering the father. Their argument is that it makes it difficult for children to be safe from abusive fathers but this is not only a wildly discriminatory generalization (which ignores statistics that show mothers are nearly twice as likely to neglect and abuse their children as fathers https://www.childwelfare.gov/pubs/usermanuals/fatherhood/chapterthree.cfm), it’s not true. The judge reviews the case and if both parents are fit, they’re generally awarded joint custody. If a parent is unfit, they don’t get custody. Meanwhile MRAs are trying to achieve fairness in custody cases.
Don’t get me wrong, there are some good feminists who truly believe in equality and wouldn’t support this anti-male bullshit, but I believe actions speak louder than words. The silent majority of feminism may be good, but the loudest feminists are the ones who spread misconceptions, jump to conclusions with no real evidence or reason to believe something is this case, oppose men’s rights, believe men are privileged and don’t lack a single right or believe that all male issues are their own fault, and essentially pit men against women which is counter-productive for everyone seeking equality. I want all discrimination done away with, whether it’s due to sex, religious affiliation, sexuality, ethnicity, etc. This can be done without supporting a movement that is inconsistent and full of radicals.
This is why I refuse to identify as a feminist.
